To bring about a big change to the daily commuters and city navigators, the Delhi Government has officially renamed Metro Stations in the capital to better reflect local heritage, cultural identities, history and public sentiment. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta approved the changes of the name of 9 Metro Stations by the State Names Authority, after reviewing 21 proposals names of future and new metro stations being built. Out of them 12 station names were retained, 7 were partially modified and 2 stations were completely renamed.

- Derawal Nagar turns into Nanak Pyau–Derawal Nagar (name modified- highlighting the historic Nanak Pyau site linked to Sikh heritage)
- Khanpur gets updated to Khanpur–Vayusainabad (name modified)
- Sonia Vihar changes to Nanaksar–Sonia Vihar (name modified- incorporating Nanaksar, evoking Guru Nanak-related cultural ties)
- Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 is now Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar (name modified- adding reference to a local temple for cultural resonance)

Officials say that they started renaming stations to make them easier for commuters to recognize and to honor Delhi’s rich blend of history and culture. They drew the names from ancient villages, temples, famous landmarks, historic figures, and nearby cultural spots.
