In a major development under Delhi Metro’s Phase IV expansion, the Green Line extension from “Inderlok to Indraprastha”, providing a direct and seamless metro link from Bahadurgarh to Central and Southeast Delhi for the first time ever. The Green Line of Delhi Metro, previously ending at Inderlok is now being extended to Indraprastha. Once this 12.3 km extension corridor is completed, it will directly link Bahadurgarh in Haryana to Central and East Delhi, significantly reducing travel time and improving access to key parts of the capital.
The proposed green line corridor will be a great improvement in the shape of interconnectivity between outer Delhi, Haryana, and central transit stations without having multiple interchanges and reducing travel time for thousands of daily commuters.
New Stations on the Green Line Extension
The Green Line extension will include 10 new stations at Inderlok, Dayabasti, Sarai Rohilla, Ajmal Khan Park, Jhandewalan Mandir, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, Delhi Gate, Delhi Sachivalaya, and Indraprastha. This new stretch includes major interchanges at Inderlok, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, Delhi Gate, and Indraprastha. These will connect commuters to 5 other metro lines- Red, Magenta, Yellow and Airport Express, Violet, and Blue- making it one of the most interconnected corridors in the network.
Of the total stretch length 11.3 km will be underground, with only 1 km elevated ensuring minimal surface disruption. The corridor will include 4 underground stations at Dayabasti, Sarai Rohilla, Ajmal Khan Park, and Jhandewalan Mandir, along with additional infrastructure at Nabi Karim station. This strategic link transforms the Green Line from a peripheral corridor into a central lifeline for West Delhi and Haryana-bound passengers.
Engineering and Environmental Considerations
The Green Line extension aligns with Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 vision of expanding the network by 103 km of new metro lines across 6 corridors, reducing air pollution and decongesting roads. This project is a cornerstone of the Centre’s infrastructure push under the PM GatiShakti framework and approved by the Union Cabinet in March 2024, the project is expected to be completed by March 2029.
The DMRC has already floated tenders for design and construction of underground tunnels, ramps, and 4 stations– Dayabasti, Sarai Rohilla, Ajmal Khan Park, and Jhandewalan Mandir., with a 42-month deadline from the date of awarding the contract. This green line extension project constitutes top quality finishing architecture, drainage systems, and arrangements of water supply with the provision of emphasis on security and sustainability.
The tender will accommodate entry and exit gates in Nabi Karim station thus assuring the convenience of the commuters. However, the route taken by this corridor through areas with morphological features akin to the ecologically sensitive Aravalli Ridge raised concerns. DMRC commitment to maintain the balance between infrastructure growth and ecological responsibility.
Bahadurgarh Direct Metro Link
For Bahadurgarh passengers, this green line extension is a long-awaited relief. Currently connected to Delhi via the Green Line’s existing route, residents will now enjoy direct access to key hubs like New Delhi Railway Station and Indraprastha, a vital commercial and administrative area. This green line corridor will facilitate thousands of passengers daily, and ensure less usage of road transport thus relieving the pressure on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.
Previous Connectivity Challenges
Before this green line extension, passengers from Bahadurgarh had to change multiple lines or take road transport after Inderlok to reach central areas- adding time and inconvenience.
Benefits of Direct Connection to Indraprastha
Now with a single-seat ride, travel time is slashed by up to 30 minutes, and interchanges have been minimized- creating a hassle-free journey for thousands of daily commuters.
Final Thoughts – Looking Ahead
The Green Line extension is more than just infrastructure- it’s a lifeline for millions, promising faster, greener, and more connected journeys across Delhi and Haryana. It is a chance to connect between aspiration and availability. The metro network of Delhi, continues to expand and its desire to change the face of urban life in India, is increasing.
This corridor will be connected to the Metro’s Red, Magenta, Yellow, Violet and Blue lines. The people of Haryana will also benefit from the Inderlok to Indraprastha line. Bahadurgarh of Haryana will get better connectivity from this metro line. At present, it is being said that this corridor will be completed by the year 2029.
